Four friends have been meeting once a month since their school days for dinner, always with their wives. This time they are guests of the plastic surgeon Rocco and his wife, psychoanalyst Eva. The food is delicious, the wine flows freely. It's a shame that Peppe didn't bring his new partner. The friends were eager to meet her. As they discuss their absent friend Diego, whose marriage ended because of a secret affair revealed by an SMS, Eva remarks: "Who knows how many couples would break up if one could peek into the other's phone?" The phone, after all, is the black box of life where all secrets are stored. Since the friends claim they would have no problem revealing the contents of their phones, Eva suggests a game: all smartphones go on the table face up. Every message is read aloud, every call is heard publicly, every WhatsApp is shown. What begins as harmless fun quickly turns into emotional chaos - full of surprising twists and delicate revelations. In what seems like a perfect circle of friends, there are more secrets and life lies than expected.
"Each of us has three lives: a private one, a public one, and a secret one," Paolo Genovese opens his play with this sentence. The comedy is based on the 2016 film "Perfetti Sconosciuti," which was a huge success in Italy. It was remade in over 18 countries and came to German cinemas in 2019. The story soon conquered the theatrical stages and has been a theatre hit in German-speaking countries since 2021.
