Club 74 Reloaded - with Open Gate

Club 74 Reloaded has been regularly catapulting guests back to the era of the legendary Waldems-Esch discotheque since 2018 - spanning the full musical range from 60s beat through 70s hard and prog rock, 80s new wave and 90s alternative, right up to present-day indie rock. The focus is on Club 74 classics, rounded out by long-lost gems, heavier tracks and current alternative smash hits - including songs the cult club never got to play before it closed.

Two familiar faces are behind the decks: DJ Bjoern, who shaped the club's sound from '91 to '99 and later spent years playing at busters workshop, and DJ Bjorn, known from the "Neon Club" and its predecessor "The Green Empire" (Club 74 DJ from '02 to '04).

A brief history of the cult discotheque Club 74

When Club 74 opened on 8 March 1974 in the old ballroom of the "Zur Krone" inn in Waldems-Esch, nobody could have guessed it would run for nearly 33 years. The club drew a wonderfully mixed crowd - sixteen-year-olds and sixty-year-olds, hippies, metalheads, punks, darkwavers, students and soldiers from nearby US Army bases all danced under the same roof. No dress code, no inhibitions on the dance floor: barefoot or in high heels, the club belonged to everyone.

What started as a regional hangout grew into a supra-regional institution. Founder Hans (†2017), the staff, the many DJs and the unique crowd turned Club 74 into a place that the FAZ described in May 1990 as: "Der geheime Mittelpunkt der Welt ist sowieso der Club 74 in Waldems-Esch."

On Christmas Day 1994 the club moved from its western-style dance hall to premises in an industrial estate - a break with tradition for some, but twelve more years of club history followed on the wrought-iron dance floor.
