To prevent a terrorist from crashing a hijacked passenger plane into the crowded Allianz Arena, Bundeswehr pilot Lars Koch defies orders and shoots down the aircraft - 164 people die so that 70,000 can be saved.
The Berlin court of assizes examines whether Lars Koch can be found guilty of murder. The defence argues for a balancing decision - the pilot's action saved thousands of lives. The prosecution charges the pilot with disobedience and, more fundamentally, with violating human dignity, because by calculating the value of human lives, he instrumentalised the passengers, who nonetheless have the same right to life as everyone else.
The verdict is rendered by the audience through a vote on the guilt or innocence of the defendant, and thus on the court's judgment.
