Gregory Porter

The sharpest description of Gregory Porter comes from "Deutschlandfunk Kultur", which simply calls him the "figurehead of contemporary jazz". The towering singer with the velvet baritone is a genuine phenomenon. Many see him as a late bloomer - his career only really took off after he turned 40. But Porter simply needed to breathe in a great deal of life before he could shape his deeply empathetic, warm and moving voice: as a football player, a head chef, and a member of a Broadway show cast.

Over 16 years he has been nominated for a Grammy eight times - a record-worthy tally. He has won it twice. His songs carry real socio-political weight while remaining genuinely, resolvingly beautiful. In short: this man is an event.
