Wendy, Joan and Michael tell their parents that Peter Pan is the one who comes through their open window at night to visit them while they sleep. When their nanny Nana tries to catch him, she only manages to grab his shadow before Peter flies out the window. The next evening he returns with his fairy friends Tinker and Bell - the children wake up, and Wendy helps Peter get his shadow back. He tells them he never wants to grow up and persuades them to follow him to Neverland.

There they have many adventures with the Lost Boys, Peter's companions. They help rescue Tiger Lily, princess of the native people, and battle a crew of pirates led by Captain Hook - a man with a mad fear of the crocodile that swallowed a clock. Will Wendy, Joan and Michael ever find their way home?
