Long, long ago, dragons lived and protected the world from the cold of ice with the warmth of their fire. But over time, ice began to destroy all life. Arktos, a terrible snowman, seeks to cover the world in ice. The old dragon Tyrion wants to prepare his young son Tabaluga for his destined task - protecting the world. But first, Tabaluga must find the True Fire, only then can he put an end to Arktos' schemes.

With a magician's help, Tabaluga sets out to find the fire. He faces many dangers, such as the spider-woman Tarantula, and discovers beautiful things along the way. He learns that the world, with all its good and evil, is wonderful and worth saving. But Arktos refuses to let Tabaluga fulfill his destiny and creates a beautiful being from pure ice - the girl Lilli. Her sole purpose is to distract Tabaluga from his quest for the True Fire.
