A wordsmith acrobat and pianist, actor and comedian: Bodo Wartke is a versatile creator whose work is infused with wit and musical delight. The German artist, based in Berlin, presents himself with remarkable range. His programmes have been honoured with numerous awards.
His trademark is an unusual yet highly musical rhyme combined with catchy and meticulously crafted music. For Bodo Wartke, language is always also music, and music gives language structure. He applies his skills to a broad spectrum of themes - from playful rhyming etudes through intricate love songs to politically and socially critical chansons.
He has created six original cabaret programmes on piano as a soloist; these are complemented by two best-of programmes with orchestras and one with his band. Beyond that, he has produced two modern retellings of ancient dramas in which he performs as an actor: King Oedipus and Antigone after Sophocles.
From tap-dance numbers to poetry, from pop standards to freshly interpreted Mozart sonatas - Wartke's musical repertoire knows no bounds. The artist draws inspiration from the diverse facets of social and personal life. He has composed his song "Liebeslied" in 88 different languages, while his socially critical and political songs such as "Monica" and "Hambacher Wald" move audiences and invite reflection.
