The "Golden Camera" and the "Grimme Award" were just the most prestigious of many prizes won by the hr-produced "Tatort" episode "Im Schmerz geboren" (Born in Pain, 2014), starring Ulrich Tukur as detective Murot. Now the film can be experienced on the big screen, with its entirely classical soundtrack played live this time by the hr-Sinfonieorchester.
Hailed by critics as a cinematic masterpiece, the episode has little in common with a conventional TV crime drama. Instead it is packed with allusions, quotations and cross-references spanning theatre and film history: from Sophocles and Shakespeare through Dürrenmatt, Truffaut and the Spaghetti Western to Tarantino. This cinematic bow to cultural heritage is rounded off by a particularly inspired stroke: the soundtrack of "Im Schmerz geboren" consists entirely of classical music - from a ravishing Handel opera aria and a Chopin piano nocturne to Verdi's famous "Prisoners' Chorus" from "Nabucco" and Georges Delerue's score for "Jules and Jim". Every recording used in this "Tatort" comes from the hr-Sinfonieorchester - some drawn from the Hessischer Rundfunk archives, others freshly recorded in a dedicated session conducted by film-music specialist Frank Strobel in March 2014 in the hr-Sendesaal. In the same line-up and the same hall, around 20 musical excerpts will be performed live alongside the film at this "Music and Film" concert.
Concert duration: approx. 90 minutes - no interval!
Recommended age: 16 and over.
