Music by Corelli, Vivaldi, Bach, Handel, Beethoven, Chopin, Grieg, Verdi and others.

The "Goldene Kamera" and the "Grimme-Preis" were just the most prominent of the many awards won by the hr-produced "Tatort" episode "Im Schmerz geboren" (2014), starring Ulrich Tukur as detective Murot. Now the film - with its entirely classical soundtrack - comes to the big screen, this time with the music performed live by the hr-Sinfonieorchester.

Critics hailed the episode as a cinematic masterpiece, and it has little in common with a conventional TV crime drama. Instead it is packed with allusions, quotations and cross-references spanning theatre and film history: from Sophocles and Shakespeare through Dürrenmatt, Truffaut and the Spaghetti Western to Tarantino. The soundtrack draws exclusively on classical music - from a Handel opera aria and a Chopin piano nocturne to Verdi's "Prisoners' Chorus" from "Nabucco" and Georges Delerue's score for "Jules et Jim". All recordings are by the hr-Sinfonieorchester, drawn partly from the Hessischer Rundfunk archives and partly from new sessions recorded in March 2014 at the hr-Sendesaal under film-music specialist Frank Strobel.

The same ensemble, the same hall - around 20 musical excerpts will be played live to the film at this "Music and Film" concert.
