The Munich association "Voilà! Opera! e.V." presents Verdi's beloved opera "La Traviata" in Italian. The story follows Violetta Valéry, a celebrated courtesan who falls deeply in love with Alfredo Germont. Though ill with tuberculosis, she blossoms in his company and dares to hope for a brighter future - until Alfredo's father forces her to leave him, and her world falls apart.
When Alfredo learns the truth from his father, he rushes back to Violetta and begs her forgiveness. She dies in his arms, at peace.
The eleven-piece chamber orchestra is led by conductor Armando Merino, who works regularly with major houses including the Bayerische Staatsoper and the Magdeburger Philharmonie. The production is staged in a classical style with a spare, elegant set. Direction is by Gabriel Grünäugl. The role of Violetta is taken by Munich soprano Maria Czeiler, praised by critics as a singer-actress of the highest order, with a warm and beautiful voice. The internationally acclaimed, award-winning Italian-Mexican tenor Rodrigo Trosino sings Alfredo. Jan Bukowski, a young and talented emerging artist who has appeared with "Voilà! Opera! e.V." on several occasions, plays Alfredo's father.
