Word acrobat and pianist, actor and comedian: Bodo Wartke is a versatile artist whose work is filled with wordplay and musical joy. This German performer, based in Berlin, stands out for his remarkable range. It's no wonder his shows have won awards.
Wartke's signature style is an unusual yet highly musical rhyme scheme paired with catchy and meticulously crafted music. For him, language is always music, and music gives language structure. He applies his skills across a broad spectrum of themes - from playful rhyming exercises through complex love songs to politically and socially critical chansons.
As a solo artist, he has created six piano cabaret programmes; these are complemented by two best-of compilations with orchestras and one with his band. He has also produced two modern adaptations of Sophocles' ancient dramas, in which he performs as an actor: King Oedipus and Antigone.
From tap dancing numbers through poetry and pop hits to freshly interpreted Mozart sonatas - Wartke's musical repertoire knows no bounds. The artist draws inspiration from many sources: from chansons brimming with wordplay like "Liebeslied", which he has composed in 88 different languages, through socially critical works like "Monica", to politically engaged songs like "Hambacher Wald".
