Effi, Ach, Effi Briest after Theodor Fontane

Seventeen-year-old Effi Briest is no model of marital eagerness or maternal devotion, but she promises herself she will do better. She marries the much older Baron von Innstetten, yet feels trapped in her role as wife and mother. She seeks freedom and eventually falls into an affair with Major Crampas. When her husband discovers the truth, he demands a divorce. But Effi refuses to see herself as a victim any longer.
