The Matthias Höfs Brass Project brings together some of the finest brass players of their generation. Its founder is the internationally acclaimed trumpeter Matthias Höfs, professor of trumpet at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater and a defining figure in the international brass scene for decades.

He is joined by leading musicians from major orchestras. Together they embody virtuosic joy in playing, brilliant sound, and the living tradition of European brass artistry.

The programme spans music from the early Baroque to the late Romantic era. London-based musician John Baston published his "Concertos in Six Parts" in 1729, marked by engaging melodies and clear harmonies. In his second partita, Johann Sebastian Bach displays great formal variety; the festive Sinfonia especially invites rich ensemble arrangements. Early Baroque virtuosity shines through in works by Bartolomeo de Selma y Salaverde, whose "Canzoni" appeared in Venice in 1638. The programme concludes with music by Oskar Böhme, whose virtuosic trumpet works have been rediscovered in recent times.

Böhme's sextet is the only original composition for this instrumentation. The three other works have been ingeniously arranged for the ensemble by Matthias Höfs.
