As a little boy I sang in the Thomanerchor
Songs for people in the church
My teacher was Johann Sebastian Bach
Mostly it was about Jesus
(Hallelujah)
Jesus doesn't get much of a look-in on KOMPASS, the new album from Die Prinzen frontman Sebastian Krumbiegel. Instead, there's room for Elon Musk's tax return, the Little Prince, the claim that 2+2=5, reasons why you shouldn't be afraid despite everything and should rather dream of a better world - and of course music. More music.
Sebastian Krumbiegel loves writing songs and playing them live. He also loves - before, during and after shows - not just entertaining his audience but actually talking with them. He admits he had no interest in sad songs. But anyone expecting the artist to drift into shallow waters will be wrong: Krumbiegel pulls off a balancing act between entertainment and reflection, between criticism and optimism, that few others manage. He's someone who believes - in the power of art, in the possibility of change for the better - and his songs are precisely about that belief. He reminds us not to let go of the dream of a different, more harmonious world. And he does it without sentimentality, but with humour - a lot of humour.
