Between mysticism and drama: the Lithuanian State Symphony Orchestra, led by its founder and chief conductor Gintaras Rinkevičius - one of Lithuania's most prominent musical figures - brings a richly coloured and virtuosic programme to Mülheim.
The evening opens with the "Préludes" of painter and composer Mikalojus Konstantinas Čiurlionis, whose dreamlike sound-pictures set a visionary tone. Award-winning young hornist Bastian Spier then takes centre stage with Richard Strauss's Horn Concerto No. 1 - a work brimming with vitality and sonic brilliance. Antonín Dvořák's Symphony No. 7 in D minor closes the evening with passionate orchestral writing, dramatic intensity and symphonic power.
