Nils Kercher Trio with special guest Oumar Barou Kouyaté (Mali)
African Pulse & Nordic Space

World music full of tender introspection and gripping dynamism. Singer and multi-instrumentalist Nils Kercher draws from West African traditions as much as from the introspective atmosphere of Nordic expanses and modern songwriting. His international trio unfolds a rich arsenal of percussion, kora, balafon, guitar, and interwoven voices into a vibrant fusion of two musical worlds. The music brings continents closer through a new lyrical sound language - captivating audiences of the most diverse generations and nationalities.

With his virtuosically played Malian lute Ngoni, Barou Kouyaté - longtime collaborator and nephew of the internationally successful Bassekou Kouyaté - brings warmth to the texture. Kira Kaipainen accompanies the sonic journey with a tender voice, sensitive percussion, and lyrics that touch the soul. The natural, organic dialogue between the musicians speaks to their curiosity about the unfamiliar and their musical confidence. The songs feel like a cycle of verses that linger long in the heart. The seasoned trio manages to fuse subtlety and delicacy in its compositions with a passion for rhythm and drive. Clearly arranged pieces let these two poles vibrate in a powerful yet filigree balance.

Nils Kercher's albums have resonated widely in the international global-fusion and singer-songwriter scene, with "Ancient Intimations" reaching the World Music Charts Europe. The BBC and renowned music magazines like Songlines, fRoots, and R2 have compared his work to prestigious productions from vastly different cultural traditions, from artists like Rokia Traore, Steve Reich, and Peter Gabriel.
