Kasiva Mutua

Kasiva Mutua is a Kenyan singer, songwriter, storyteller, and one of her country's most outstanding percussionists. Her music is deeply rooted in inherited traditions and stands as a testament to African heritage and resilience.

Her live performances draw inspiration from her album Desturi and move between complex East African call-and-response structures and layered West African drum rhythms. She combines traditional African music with jazz influences and a pan-African sound - rhythmic and energetic throughout.

As a singer and storyteller, Kasiva adds another dimension to her performances: her voice carries emotion and narrative through the rhythms. Her work engages with themes of African identity, love, spirituality, and the empowerment of women. As one of few African percussionists on international stages, she uses her art to connect and strengthen.
