A blend of Anglo-American roots music
London-born Steve Baker has long been regarded as one of the great harmonica players with international renown. Many fans know him as the longtime accompanist to blues legend Abi Wallenstein; his four CDs with guitar virtuoso Chris Jones, who passed away in 2005, remain groundbreaking to this day.
Meanwhile, he has made a name for himself as a songwriter and frontman, releasing three CDs of genre-spanning original compositions on Timezone Records. The songs combine melodic pop sensibility with thoughtful lyrics - blues, Americana, and rock meet influences from reggae and funk.
His harmonica style is funky, melodic, and always in service of the song - a natural complement to his voice. With his band The LiveWires, Baker presents an overall sound that is stylistically hard to pin down, and that is precisely what makes it his trademark.
