Johnny & The Yooahoos, winners of the "IBMA International Band Grant", live at Bischofsmühle!

The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) awards its International Band Performance Grant each year to one selected non-American band. The $5,000 grant is designed to cover the costs of attending the IBMA World of Bluegrass in the USA - with the aim of fostering international exchange in the bluegrass scene and giving outstanding bands a stage in America.

Johnny & The Yooahoos took home this remarkable prize and spent last summer on a five-week US tour, playing storied venues including the Grand Ole Opry and the Grey Fox Bluegrass Festival.

Musically, the Yooahoos stay true to their roots. They play entirely acoustic - banjo, mandolin, guitar, double bass and three-part harmonies. They celebrate American folk music in their own way: authentic and grounded, blending traditional bluegrass with contemporary folk. They move between city grit and rural calm, between a rich palette of sounds and a raw, honest sonic aesthetic, between a nostalgic glance back and a look forward - or straight into the here and now.
