Long, long ago, dragons lived and protected the world from the cold of ice with the warmth of their fire. Over time, ice began to destroy all living things. Arktos, a terrible snowman, seeks to cover the world in ice. The old dragon Tyrion wants to prepare his young son Tabaluga for his destined task - protecting the world. To do this, Tabaluga must find the True Fire, the only thing that can stop Arktos.

Tabaluga sets out on his journey with the support of a magician. He faces many dangers, such as the spider woman Tarantula, but also discovers beautiful things. He learns that the world, with all its good and evil, is wonderful and worth saving. However, Arktos refuses to let Tabaluga fulfill his destiny. He creates a beautiful being from pure ice - a girl named Lilli, whose sole purpose is to distract Tabaluga from his search for the True Fire.

Tabaluga falls in love with Lilli, as Arktos planned, but through this he discovers a great and beautiful power - Love.
