What happens when sound worlds transform and instruments boldly exchange roles? The Folkwang Orchestra and its chief conductor Johannes Klumpp believe: then it becomes exciting! That's why they invite you to an experiment with a surprise factor and unexpected transformations. Bach's famous Toccata and Fugue and Mussorgsky's catchy piano cycle "Pictures at an Exhibition" become works for strings, while soloist Julian Emanuel Becker plays the legendary 24th Caprice of the "Devil's Violinist" Paganini on the organ. The centre of his performance, however, is a work of overwhelming power: Poulenc's monumental organ concerto, in which the great organ of the Philharmonie is heard with the Folkwang Orchestra for the first time. The young talent (born 2005) impresses with musicality and technique, having already won first prizes at the German Music Competition and the Bach Competition in Leipzig. "Transformers" is full of powerful contrasts, musical metamorphoses and new tonal colours, not least in Linkin Park's rock song "What I've Done" in a moving Folkwang Orchestra version. An evening full of energy and new dimensions!
