Description was written before the event

Jamaican musician Burning Spear ranks among the most defining voices in reggae history: for over six decades, he has embodied a powerful musical vision that transcends the boundaries of the genre. With his distinctive voice and deeply rooted message of self-determination, cultural identity, and unity, he has influenced generations of listeners worldwide.

Burning Spear began his career in the late 1960s after meeting Bob Marley, who introduced him to Studio One - one of Jamaica's most successful record labels. There he created early classics such as "Burning Spear" and "Rocking Time". In the 1970s and 1980s, he became a defining figure in roots reggae.

With albums like "Social Living", "Hail H.I.M." and "Resistance", he set new standards, blending roots reggae with influences from jazz, funk, and rock. Together with his partner Sonia Rodney, he founded Burning Music Records, through which they have released numerous albums, CDs, DVDs, and vinyl records.

For his work, Burning Spear has received numerous awards. He has been nominated for a Grammy twelve times and won twice for the albums "Calling Rastafari" and "Jah Is Real". In 2007, the Jamaican government honored him with the Order of Distinction for his outstanding contributions to music.

Beyond his musical work, Burning Spear has been socially engaged for decades. He has fought against apartheid in South Africa, supported the independence struggle in Zimbabwe, and promoted awareness of the teachings of Pan-African thinker Marcus Garvey. His commitment to fighting racism and advancing social justice is a central part of his artistic identity.
