The closing concert of the Musical Summer brings together a festival orchestra that has grown from musical encounters over recent decades.

Elgar's Serenade for Strings in E Minor unfolds lyrical warmth and finely balanced sonority across three brief movements - the intimate Larghetto with its cantabile expression, the outer movements in elegant simplicity. Tchaikovsky's Andante cantabile places Alexander Wollheim as soloist at the centre: the singing cello line is sensitively supported by the strings. Grieg's suite "From Holberg's Time" concludes the programme, combining Baroque dance forms with Nordic freshness and uniting rhythmic precision with vivid expressive power across five movements.
