The Baltic Sea Philharmonic grew out of the Usedomer Musikfestival in 2008 and has since become an international orchestra representing the cultural bonds shared by all ten countries of the Baltic Sea region. This year the ensemble returns to Peenemünde to give voice to a longing for peace - at a site once shaped by war.

On the podium is Robert Treviño, an American conductor based in Lithuania who led the orchestra last year as well. A Swedish-Russian-German programme deepens his connection to the Baltic world. The soloist is twelve-year-old cellist Charlotte Melkonian: born in 2013, she has already performed at Carnegie Hall and the Berliner Philharmonie, and this year Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben is supporting her with an instrument by Stefano Scarampella from Mantua.

Together with the Baltic Sea Philharmonic, the Usedomer Musikpreis laureate 2026 opens the festival.

His conducting style is noted for its energy and close attention to orchestral texture.

About the venue: Historisch-Technisches Museum Peenemünde

The Historisch-Technisches Museum Peenemünde occupies the former power plant of the Nazi-era rocket research facility on the island of Usedom, where the V-2 ballistic missile was developed in the 1930s and 1940s. The permanent exhibition covers the history of rocket and weapons technology, forced labour at the site, and the Cold War era. Outdoor exhibits include a V-2 rocket and a Soviet submarine.
