Matthias Ningel "Harmonie"
Nienburger Kulturwerk, Germany
25 €
In his fifth solo programme, Ningel explores the bigger picture: harmony in music and society. The ancient Greeks already had a bold idea: musical harmony and cosmic harmony are based on the same order. Ningel continues this thought and asks himself how harmony fares in the present day. Why do contemporary times feel so out of rhythm? Isn't the pulse of time more like atrial fibrillation? And why can all these enemies of humanity neither sing nor dance?
Whether painful kidney stones, hidden tragedies beneath one's own linoleum, or the omnipresence of screens in public spaces - through singing, piano, synthesizer, and various small instruments, he translates social phenomena into music. Despite receiving numerous awards for his cabaret art, Matthias Ningel unfortunately also doesn't know how to set the world right. But as a doctorate-holding musician and cabaret artist, he attempts to order the chaos until a coherent whole emerges.
He draws musicality from things, turns words into drum grooves, and even manages to make a screeching asparagus peeler into a solo instrument in the orchestra of the world. Harmonie is universal musical cabaret for all generations and a love letter to music.
