One Night of Dire Straits - Tribute Show - Tour 2027 — Bürgerhaus Ibbenbüren, Ibbenbüren

Dire Straits were a band of superlatives. With Mark Knopfler's distinctive guitar work and his deep voice immediately recognizable, they climbed from small bar concerts to the world's biggest stages in less than a decade.

As a counterpoint to the punk-rock that dominated the era, these perpetually cash-strapped musicians brought their diverse influences to a brief niche existence before rapidly becoming one of the most famous and successful bands in music history, selling over 120 million records throughout their career.

With "Sultans of Swing" in the late 1970s came their breakthrough, placing Mark Knopfler front and centre as singer, composer, and above all guitarist. The group reached its peak in the mid-1980s with "Money For Nothing", a collaboration with fellow Geordie Sting.

Yet success and mounting expectations took a heavy toll on the musicians. Following the triumph of their final album "On Every Street" (38x platinum worldwide) and the accompanying world tour of 1991-1992, which included 229 concerts total, Mark Knopfler announced in 1995 that the band would be inactive and would no longer perform live.

This final chapter now takes centre stage in the tribute show "One Night of Dire Straits", 30 years later. Guitarist and vocalist Alex Moll, leading a superbly assembled ensemble of live and studio musicians, takes audiences on a journey of captivating, handcrafted music.

Moll has studied Knopfler's music and guitar playing since his youth and has gathered in his band exclusively those who share the same passion for Dire Straits. He succeeds not only in coaxing from his guitar the same sounds that made Mark Knopfler world-famous, but also in elevating the energy and joy of his nine-piece band to the level of the original.
