Two composers open the Heilbronn subscription concert series: Ragnhild Hemsing visits with violin and Hardanger fiddle. She has grown up with both instruments and Norway's musical tradition since earliest childhood.
The heart of the evening is the world premiere of "Stories", the latest work by Agnes Ida Pettersen, written especially for Hemsing. Alongside it, "Sound and Fury" by British composer Anna Clyne - according to Bachtrack, the most performed composer of our time. Bruch's Violin Concerto No. 1 in G minor op. 26 completes the first half: a work with balladic and rhapsodic qualities, a cantabile Adagio, and a virtuosic finale in Hungarian style.
The evening concludes with Mendelssohn-Bartholdy's Symphony No. 3 in A minor op. 56, the "Scottish". The composer first sketched his ideas in July 1829 during a trip to Scotland - but only 12 years later, far from the inspiring Scottish mist, he completed the work.
