The Sorrows of Young Werther

A classic by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.

Young Werther has just left home when he meets Lotte and falls hopelessly in love with her. Yet Lotte is already engaged to Albert and will soon marry him. Werther wavers between hope, longing, and despair - his unrequited love and the constant sense of exclusion from bourgeois society become increasingly unbearable. He contemplates suicide.

More than 250 years after Goethe's epistolary novel first appeared, Werther's tragic fate has lost none of its power.
