Aris Quartett: Beethoven Early and Late

Expressive, dynamic, virtuosic - the Aris Quartett ranks among the world's top chamber ensembles. Founded in Frankfurt am Main nearly twenty years ago, the quartet has performed in the same line-up ever since.

This evening they present a Beethoven work described as full of "expressivity and unleashed wildness". Anyone picturing the young master here would be mistaken. Beethoven composed the Grosse Fuge Op. 133 a year before his death, leaving behind a piece that some found as baffling "as Chinese", while others were "enchanted" by it.

The programme opens with Beethoven's String Quartet Op. 18 No. 4, written 26 years earlier. The evening closes with Brahms and his romantic String Quartet Op. 51 No. 2.
