Astrid Lindgren was born in the age of horse-drawn carriages, and when her father died, a man set foot on the moon for the first time. She grew up without a telephone, radio, or television - and became a woman who was as media-present as few others in the world. When she was born, women still had no voting rights, married women were under the guardianship of their husbands, and the social hub of her hometown Vimmerby was the cattle market. When she died, the world had lived through two world wars, the sexual revolution, and the invention of the internet.

Based on interviews, quotes, and letters, Martin Mühleis has created a stage monologue about Lindgren's life - the first stage autobiography authorized by her family. Gesine Cukrowski takes on the role of the Swedish children's author and tells, accompanied by three musicians, the story of a small farm girl who became one of the most influential women of the 20th century.

The play combines acting, reading, and music into a humorous and moving theatrical evening.
