The First Name (Comedy by Mathieu Delaporte & Alexandre de La Patellière)

A pleasant evening in the elegantly furnished apartment of literature professor Pierre Garaud and his wife Elisabeth. Only friends and family are invited: Elisabeth's brother Vincent with his pregnant wife Anna, and Claude Gatignol, a trombonist in the radio orchestra and childhood friend.

For Vincent, a gifted showman, the gathering is too peaceful. To stir things up, he reveals to his stunned friends the planned first name of his unborn son: Adolphe.

The debate over whether one can name a child after Hitler is just one of the heated discussions of the evening, but it causes the previously cozy family gathering to suddenly spiral out of control.

Because the childhood friends Pierre and Vincent are now in the mood to finally tell each other some home truths that would be better left unsaid in the interest of peaceful coexistence. Considerable egos clash, and the alpha males attack each other with raised hackles. Witty verbal sparring unfolds with style - but the two only lose their composure when Elisabeth and Vincent's mother, Francoise, enters the fray in a way no one could have imagined.

Wordplay and dialogue in the finest tradition of French satirical comedy drive the action forward breathlessly, allowing glimpses into the depths of the characters beneath all the humor.
