Thurn und Taxis Schlossfestspiele 2026 opens on July 10-11 with a brand-new production of Giuseppe Verdi's masterpiece "La Traviata" by Mainfranken Theater Würzburg. The title role of Violetta Valéry is performed by Georgian soprano and freshly awarded OPUS Klassik laureate Sophie Gordeladze. The audience can expect a moving operatic experience full of passion and emotion - an absolute highlight right at the beginning of the festival!

The poignant story of the ill-fated love of the pleasure-seeking Parisian courtesan Violetta Valéry, who falls in love with young Alfredo Germont but must sacrifice her love for "family honour" and ultimately dies tragically, initially provoked rejection at its 1853 premiere on "moral" grounds. Yet it soon began its triumphant journey through the world's opera houses - no wonder: Verdi composed some of his most beautiful and celebrated melodies, stirring ensembles, magnificent ball scenes, and delicate, filigree orchestral landscapes.
