4. Kreuzgangkonzert 2026 - Arcis Saxophon Quartett — Kloster Alpirsbach, Alpirsbach

Anyone who has strolled past Munich's Königsplatz may have spotted the Arcisstraße - the street that gave the Arcis Saxophon Quartett its name 15 years ago. Long since outgrown their hometown, the quartet ranks among the most active classical chamber ensembles in the world. Whether on Ecuador's highest mountain pass, in the middle of the Saudi Arabian desert, on a rock in the mid-Atlantic, or in a sold-out philharmonic hall in Munich or Berlin - the four saxophonists feel at home with their music wherever they go.

They honed their chamber-music craft with the very best: studying with the Artemis Quartett at the UdK in Berlin and at the European Chamber Music Academy, as well as at the HMT München with Prof. Koryun Asatryan and Prof. Friedemann Berger.

This "quartet of world stature" appears at the Alpirsbacher Kreuzgangkonzerte for the first time.

Programme (subject to change):

Everything here revolves around Bach - specifically his Well-Tempered Clavier. Over the coming years, Arcis is recording all 48 fugues in a new version for saxophone quartet, and has commissioned 48 composers from around the world to each write a new prelude. A selection from this project will be performed at the concert.

Composers of today & Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750)
Selection of newly composed preludes alongside original fugues from the Well-Tempered Clavier

Claus Hierluksch (soprano saxophone), Ricarda Fuss (alto saxophone), Anna-Marie Schäfer (tenor saxophone), Jure Knez (baritone saxophone)
