The Runrig Experience - 50 Years of Runrig

A tribute to the Scottish band Runrig

Runrig were among the most successful Scottish bands of all time - with loyal fans not only in Scotland but also in Denmark and Germany, multiple number-one hits and chart-topping albums. Founded in 1973 on the Isle of Skye, the Celtic-rock band released fourteen studio albums, including songs in Scottish Gaelic. Their lyrics revolve around places, history, politics and people that represent Scotland - this deep connection to land and language shaped the band's distinctive sound.

In 2016, Runrig announced they would step back from the studio after their 14th album The Story, and in 2017 embarked on their farewell tour The Final Mile. In August 2018, they played their final concert - The Last Dance at Stirling City Park - before an estimated 52,000 fans.

In 2023, the band would have celebrated 50 years. Richie Muir, a singer and guitarist from Edinburgh who now lives in Nottingham and has been a passionate Runrig fan from the start, seized this as an opportunity to found Runrig Experience - a band that celebrates Runrig's music and carries on their legacy.
