Herrenberger Bühne: Commedia dell'Arte

The wealthy and aging Florentine Pantalone wants to get married. Convinced of his own charms, he has chosen young Venetian Julia as his bride - though she has no idea yet of the dubious fate awaiting her. Pantalone sends his attractive nephew Ottavio, accompanied by the poet Fabio and the merchant Brigella, to woo her on his behalf. Obstacles abound: Eularia, Julia's formidably determined nurse, sets very high standards for her ward's future husband. But the greatest obstacle of all turns out to be love itself - Julia and Ottavio fall hopelessly for each other. The situation looks bleak for the two lovers.

Luckily, we are in the middle of a Commedia dell'Arte, and that genre always guarantees a happy ending.
