Description was written before the event

Zarzuela is a popular form of opera or operetta in Spanish, typically featuring rich choruses and dance rhythms. It is currently enjoying a worldwide renaissance and gaining ever greater popularity. Much of this is due to our conductor José Miguel Pérez-Sierra, who last year made his debut as the new musical director of the Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid with this very opera. The cast included, among others, Pietro Spagnoli and Celso Albelo. Since then, José Miguel has formed an alliance with Christoph Loy, one of Europe's most important opera directors, and stages zarzuelas not only in Kraków but also in Basel, at the Theater an der Wien, in Berlin, and in the USA. Zarzuela is in vogue! Bad Wildbad has decided to embrace this work, and we offer you this unique production with a stellar cast. Marina by Emilio Arrieta had its premiere in 1855 as a two-act zarzuela in Madrid and was reworked into a three-act opera in 1871. Together with "¡Rossini olé!" this forms a refreshingly spirited Spanish accent in the programme.

The purchase of the programme booklet counts as admission to the opera introduction one hour before the start at Forum König-Karls-Bad.
