Random/Control has been the defining project of Vorarlberg pianist David Helbock for many years. Together with Johannes Bär and Andreas Broger, the trio celebrated its 15th anniversary and played hundreds of concerts worldwide. After albums on Traumton and ACT Music, the band launches a new programme in 2025. The new album was recorded during a legendary live session at the Little Big Beat Studio in Liechtenstein.
The trio's hallmark is variety. The three musicians bring more than 20 instruments to the stage. Broger switches between clarinet, saxophone and flute, and occasionally sings. Bär handles tuba, trombone, trumpet, sousaphone, alphorn, didgeridoo, beatbox and drums - sometimes all at once. Helbock has composed many new pieces; in this project he contributes piano and percussion and sets poems by William Blake, Emily Dickinson and others to music.
For the vocal interpretation of these lyrical soundscapes, the trio is joined by Fola Dada - winner of the German Jazz Award 2022 and one of the most versatile voices across jazz, soul and pop. The Stuttgart-based singer has become a fixture of the German jazz and soul scene. Together with David Helbock's Random/Control, wildness meets virtuosity and poetry meets energy - an adventure with an open ending.
