Some bands have curious origins: invited by the Chinese Ministry of Culture, five talented students from the University of Limerick - where Irish folk is a serious subject - travelled to China to perform on St. Patrick's Day. They quickly found their own fresh sound, but still needed a name. A walk along the Bund promenade in Shanghai, starting at number 3, provided the answer - 3 ON THE BUND was born, a fitting address for Irish music. The band is made up of multiple award-winning Irish musicians, with one exception: Bavarian Simon Pfisterer, who joined after studying pipes and whistle in Limerick. The quintet blends traditional music, original songs and world music influences, bringing a fresh angle to the folk scene. Irish Music Magazine describes their sound as "powerful, energetic and vibrant".
