She — Peterskirche Leipzig, Leipzig

Conductor: Florian Helgath

There are many of them. They are impressive. They are strong - women who shaped music history, and whose works Chorwerk Ruhr brings together with characteristic excellence in the concert programme "She". At the heart of the programme stands Caroline Shaw's "Partita for 8 Voices". The American composer drew her inspiration from Sol LeWitt's painting "Wall Drawing 305", in which 100 randomly placed dots grow into a new whole before the viewer's eyes. Just as those dots expand into lines and forms, international women composers from past and present gather around Shaw's work. Their life stories enter into resonant dialogue through their music, opening new connections and perspectives for every listener.

Programme:
Hildegard von Bingen (1098-1179): O virtus sapientiae; Caroline Shaw (1982): Partita for 8 Voices; Maddalena Casulana (1544-1590): Morir non puo; Vittoria Raffaella Aleotti (1575-1620): Surge, proper amica mea; Fanny Hensel (1805-1847): Nacht liegt auf den fremden Wegen; Florence B. Price (1887-1953): Resignation; Alice Tegner (1864-1943): En hymn till stjärnan; Clara Schumann (1819-1896): Gondoliera; Imogen Holst (1907-1984): Hallo, my fancy; Nana Forte (1981): a new commissioned work for Chorwerk Ruhr
