Naht zur Nacht — Peterskirche Leipzig, Leipzig

Conductor: Florian Helgath

On chor.com Saturday, the audience has the opportunity to be carried by the sounds of the Swiss premier ensemble Zürcher Sing-Akademie from evening into musical night. Yet the ensemble does not lull listeners to sleep, but invites them into a dialogue of cultures and choral music between tradition and modernity. One of the central works of the programme is the title piece "Naht zur Nacht", a commissioned work by Swiss composer Beat Vögele. Through a web of frequencies in the microtonal range, listeners are here enveloped in the special magic of approaching darkness. Vögele's piece is framed by further compositions devoted to themes of night and transience, including Johann Sebastian Bach's "Komm, o Tod, du Schlafes Bruder", Johannes Brahms' "Nachtwache I", and Heinz Holliger's "Winter 1".
