Markus Meyer reads Truman Capote's "Breakfast at Tiffany's"
Writer Truman Capote was born in 1924 in New Orleans. Published in 1958, "Breakfast at Tiffany's" tells the story of the vivacious yet enigmatic and complex socialite Holly Golightly, gaining enormous fame especially through the film adaptation starring Audrey Hepburn. The novel is a poignant satire of "refined" New York society in 1943, during the final years of the war. Holly Golightly dreams of social advancement: she reluctantly recalls her bleak past as an orphan and young wife, hoping for a better life in the big city alongside a wealthy man. The jewelry store on Fifth Avenue becomes for her a symbol of both longed-for freedom and security.
"Breakfast at Tiffany's" is an entertaining blend of cheerfulness and melancholy, humor and satire. Excerpts from the novel are read by actor Markus Meyer. Two pianists perform: Chris Hopkins and Thilo.
A production of the Vienna Concert Hall in the text adaptation by Hans Mrak.
