Sophie Rennert performs an evening of song on Friday, 4 September 2026 at 19:30 at Wartburg in Eisenach. The Austrian mezzo-soprano, accompanied by pianist Joseph Middleton, will present Schumann's Liederkreis op. 39 to poems by Eichendorff, alongside selected songs by Brahms and Schubert. This is one of two German dates for the artist. Wartburg is a medieval castle overlooking the city, founded in the 11th century and inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list. Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German here during 1521-22. Admission is 40 €.

About the venue: Wartburg

The Wartburg is a medieval castle above Eisenach, founded in the 11th century and listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1999. Martin Luther translated the New Testament into German here in 1521-22 while in hiding. The castle also hosted the legendary Minnesänger contests and inspired Richard Wagner's opera Tannhäuser. Today it draws visitors year-round and serves as a backdrop for concerts and cultural events.
