Pfalztheater Kaiserslautern - Two Gentlemen from Real Madrid

Away from the noise of the city, two gentlemen meet. Both wanted to be alone and enjoy the silence of the forest. But since they're together now, they strike up a conversation. To their surprise, they discover that they are both professional footballers. One is a striker, the other a midfielder. What a wonderful coincidence: they both play for Real Madrid! They talk about the eternal fear of death and trophies. Because they like each other and the midfielder has no plans for Christmas, the striker invites him to stay with him and his parents. The parents immediately take their son's new friend to their hearts, especially since they're convinced that the two share something more than "friendship". During a funeral, they actually grow closer. Their first tentative kiss is secretly photographed and promptly goes viral. It becomes a hot topic at Real Madrid's next press conference. When it threatens to come out that the striker has an offer from Paris Saint-Germain, world-renowned defender Sergio Ramos comes to their aid.

With great empathy and absurd humour, author Leo Meier sketches a tender utopia of a world where it's completely normal to fly to training on a dragon, and professional footballers naturally fall in love and come out.

Leo Meier (*1995) originally wanted to become a professional footballer, but ultimately chose to study theatre studies and philosophy in Bochum, as well as acting at Folkwang University of the Arts. His debut work "Two Gentlemen from Real Madrid" was awarded at the 2022 Heidelberg Play Market with both the Audience Prize and the SWR2 Radio Play Prize.
