A Walk through Jewish Halberstadt — Klaussynagoge, Halberstadt

Halberstadt's urban layout still makes it possible to trace the history of Jews as a religious minority - in a way that is exemplary for the German-speaking world.

"A Walk through Jewish Halberstadt" explores the historical conditions under which Jews lived, highlights their role as active citizens, and traces the inner religious development of Halberstadt's Jewish community.

The walk starts at the Klaussynagoge in the former Jewish quarter below the Petershof - once the bishop's palace and later the seat of the Prussian government. The route leads via the Peterstreppe and Domplatz to the two oldest Jewish cemeteries, then back into the lower town. The walk concludes at the art project "Und der Lebende nehme sich das zu Herzen..." on the site of the destroyed Baroque synagogue, and at the Berend Lehmann Museum in the Mikveh House.
