LUX - Requiem à 4 | Requiem (World Premiere) — Kaiserdom, Speyer

As part of our CREATIO festival series, music is experienced as a living creative process - one that has unfolded over centuries and yet keeps renewing itself. This concert evening explores how tradition and innovation can enter into dialogue.

Two settings of the Requiem bring different eras face to face: Tomás Luis de Victoria's a cappella composition opens a space of timeless spirituality, while Peter Tilling's world premiere for instrumental ensemble carries the creative act into the present. Together, the works invite reflection on the universal themes of creation, transience, and farewell.

The idea of CREATIO as perpetual renewal becomes tangible in Tilling's piece, while Victoria's music celebrates the Requiem in its most concentrated, spiritual form. From the dialogue between past and present, a musical bridge emerges - one that honours both the power of tradition and the courage to create anew, carried by the hope of transformation: "The night is far spent, the day is at hand. Let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light" (Rom 13:12).
