Bjarke Falgren & Sönke Meinen: "The Circle"
Ev. Luth. Deichkirche Carolinensiel, Germany
Bjarke Falgren (violin) and Sönke Meinen (guitar) present their new album "The Circle" - eleven pieces about the encounters, experiences and places that have shaped the duo. The album is conceived as a counterpoint to the hype around "self-made people" and is dedicated to friendship and family.
In concert, the two move fluidly between folk, jazz, world music and classical, leaving room for spontaneous interaction and weaving their compositions together with stories that are by turns funny and moving. Their debut album "Postcard to Self" earned them two nominations at the Danish Music Awards in 2019 - for "Album of the Year (World)" and "Composer of the Year".
Among the tracks on "The Circle" are "Falls Of Measach", inspired by a waterfall in the Scottish Highlands that Bjarke discovered on tour, and "Bench On The Hill", a Scottish-flavoured melody Sönke wrote during a festival in the small town of Ullapool. "Eat, Play, Sleep, Repeat" is a tribute to Chili, Bjarke's dog.
The title track sums up the album's message: recognising encounters as something special and letting something precious grow from them. AKUSTIK GITARRE magazine called "The Circle" "one of the most beautiful and compelling instrumental albums of the year".
