Bjarke Falgren & Sönke Meinen: "The Circle"
Ev. Luth. Deichkirche Carolinensiel, Germany
New album! "The Circle" leaves all traditions behind with virtuosic joy and seemingly boundless creativity... Through delicate melodies and rich groove, Bjarke Falgren and Sönke Meinen craft a tribute to being there for one another, to listening, and to the strength of genuine togetherness - a counterpoint to the "Self-Made People" hype, dedicated to friendships and family.

In concert, Bjarke Falgren and Sönke Meinen break down the stylistic boundaries between folk, jazz, world music and classical, winning over audiences around the globe with their expressive, vibrant playing. Neither musician takes himself too seriously - they leave room for spontaneous interaction and weave their compositions together with funny and touching stories. Their acclaimed debut duo album "Postcard to Self" earned them two Danish Music Award nominations in 2019: "Album of the Year (World)" and "Composer of the Year".
The new album "The Circle" matches that standard. Eleven colourful pieces tell of encounters, experiences and places that have left their mark on the duo. "Falls Of Measach" is named after a waterfall Bjarke discovered while on tour in the Scottish Highlands, which inspired a melody. "Bench On The Hill" also has its roots in the Highlands - Sönke developed its distinctly Scottish-sounding tune during a festival in the small town of Ullapool. And "Eat, Play, Sleep, Repeat" is a tribute to Chili, Bjarke's dog, who lives exactly the lifestyle the title describes.
The title track "The Circle" carries special weight. It distils the album's core message: recognise the particular quality of each encounter and let something precious grow from it. Sönke Meinen and Bjarke Falgren invite their audience to become part of the "Circle".
