Arete Quartett and Nerida Quartett

The fourth string quartet of the day takes the stage here, naturally with music by Joseph Haydn. The Arete Quartet won First Prize at the 15th International Mozart Competition in Salzburg in 2023, and two years earlier became the first Korean ensemble to claim First Prize plus five special awards at the International Music Competition "Prague Spring". Before the Arete Quartet closes the afternoon with one of Schumann's quartets - in 1842 the composer famously reflected on the towering legacy Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven had left for the form - the Nerida Quartet introduces us to a young American who in 2018 composed a three-movement string quartet inspired by a photographic triptych on the 1969 Moon landing: Alistair Coleman.

Joseph Haydn (1732-1809): String Quartet in C major op. 54 No. 2, Hob. III:57 - Arete Quartett

Alistair Coleman (1998): String Quartet Moonshot: I July 16, 1969 - Nerida Quartett

Robert Schumann (1810-1856): String Quartet op. 41 No. 3 - Arete Quartett
