Marie Diot - "Unlikely Hits" — PIAZZA Kleinkunstbühne, Vellmar

Marie Diot is a singer-songwriter (Liedermacherin). She makes music and mischief - a blend of indie-pop, chanson, and a lot of fun. Her concerts mix quirky, comedic stage banter with songs that tell stories about everyday life with charm, directness, wordplay, and irony. Topics range from love to food poisoning - because sometimes things happen that are so absurd, you couldn't make them up. Some of it is melancholic, some of it is funny, including her haircut, more or less. She is generally optimistic, tries to stay calm, always searching for the right words and the best melody, hoping to move someone. What Marie has to say lands immediately - and still stays with you.

In 2017, Marie Diot released her debut album "Pinguin im Tutu - Weiß nicht, ob er Tänzer ist". The follow-up, "Apfel im Strudel der ewigen Liebe", came out in November 2020. On it, she shows her range - musically and thematically - balancing nimbly between melancholy and silliness, indie-pop and chanson, tied together by her distinctive style. Supported by the excellent multi-instrumentalist Fabian Großberg, her tours have taken her across Germany; she has opened for Dota and made guest appearances at concerts by Stephan Sulke.

In 2014, Marie Diot won an award at the Treffen junge Musik-Szene; in 2015, she received the "Nahaufnahme" prize, another grant from the Bundeswettbewerbe Berliner Festspiele. In 2017, she reached the final of the German Song Contest "Troubadour". She won the Plattsounds Contest in 2019. Since 2020, she is a graduate of the singer-songwriter school SAGO, and was also nominated for the Prix Pantheon that same year.
