90er Nächte - Girlgroups, Gameboys, Tamagotchis

Mobile phones are the latest craze, gaming consoles are taking over teenagers' bedrooms, and Gameboys and Tamagotchis are the must-haves on the go. At TV channel ARF, presenter Peter Planken and producer Harald are meanwhile plotting a new talent show: "Deutschland sucht die Popstars!"

Teenager Stephanie is furious with her boyfriend Lukas - his band leaves almost no time for their relationship. Her mum Doro and grandma Maria comfort her, while friends Lena and Lara try to keep her mind off things. On a whim, Stephanie signs all three of them up for the TV show's casting - and the freshly formed girl group soon discovers that not everything at the broadcaster is above board.

Meanwhile, Lukas' band plays their first gig and promptly gets cheated out of their fee. Grandma Maria throws herself into the chaos - will it all work out in the end?

The play by Thomas Schiffmann ("Schlager lügen nicht", "Toast Hawaii", "Schlager, Stars und deutsche Welle") blends Schlager and rock, boy bands and girl groups with the biggest hits of the decade.
