Festival finale with the jazz legend and her programme WE EXIST!
US singer Dee Dee Bridgewater ranks among the most important interpreters of the Great American Songbook - but her repertoire reaches far beyond it: she returns time and again to songs from the American civil rights movement, steeped in soul and blues, including "Mississippi Goddam", "Trying Times", "The Danger Zone" and "Why (Am I Treated So Bad)". Her scat singing is masterful, yet she captivates audiences with every other shade of her voice just as readily.
In her programme WE EXIST! - the title deliberately echoes Max Roach's influential 1960 jazz album "We Insist! Freedom Now Suite" - Bridgewater channels her life experience and artistic power. For some time now she has preferred to perform live in trio line-ups made up exclusively of women. Female empowerment, defiance and sheer joy of life come together in a show that uplifts and energises.
