Festival finale with the jazz legend and her programme WE EXIST!
US singer Dee Dee Bridgewater ranks among the most important interpreters of the Great American Songbook, but her artistry reaches well beyond that repertoire: with intensity and brilliance she returns again and again to songs steeped in soul and blues from the American civil rights movement - among them "Mississippi Goddam", "Trying Times", "The Danger Zone" and "Why (Am I Treated So Bad)". Her scat singing is second to none, and every other note of her extraordinary voice holds the audience just as firmly in its grip.
In her song programme WE EXIST! - whose title is surely no accident, echoing the hugely influential 1960 jazz album by drummer Max Roach ("We Insist! Freedom Now Suite") - Dee Dee Bridgewater channels her vast life experience and all her artistic powers. For some time now she has preferred to perform live in trio line-ups made up exclusively of women. Female empowerment, fighting spirit and sheer joy of life come together in her concerts to create something that leaves audiences uplifted, moved and strengthened.
A truly inspired finale!
