The story:
The little harmonica is well loved by people, but the other instruments mock her for her size and her inability to play every note. On a grey day, she is cast out at an instrument assembly, dismissed as little more than a toy.
Humiliated, she cries and runs until she reaches the sea and can go no further. There she spots a harbour and learns of a future in the new world. Tucked into the breast pocket of a traveller, she sets off for America, where she is warmly welcomed by Black slaves singing gospel. In the hands of a slave named Michael, she discovers that with a little skill, every note can be coaxed from her after all!
A new life begins for the little harmonica, taking her through many musical styles and adventures. In the end she not only settles the score with those who wronged her, but also learns that she holds far more within her than she ever dared believe.
